• SOME OF EVERYTHING. GalaxyCon comes to Raleigh Convention Center from Thursday, July 24-Sunday, July 28. The festival of fandom includes celebrities, artists, voice actors, cosplayers, entertainers, creators, wrestlers and more. Celebrate comic books, pop culture, sci-fi and gaming. Tickets are available online.
• HITS FROM THE PAST. If you love synthesizers and music from the 1980s, The Lost 80’s Live comes to Koka Booth Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 3 at 6 p.m. The lineup includes A Flock of Seagulls, Big Country, General Public, The Vapors, Belouis Some, The Icicle Works, Josie Cotton, China Crisis, The Polecats and Peter Godwin. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
• LEARN TO PLAY. Lake Lynn Community Center (7921 Ray Road, Raleigh) hosts beginning and intermediate pickleball clinics each Wednesday. USA Pickleball-certified instructor Bruce Blankenhorn serves as the instructor. Beginners take the court from 9-10:45 a.m. with intermediates/experienced players following from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Cost is $25 for Raleigh residents and $40 for non-residents.
• TRIBUTE BAND. Raleigh’s 2025 Concert Series continues at Pullen Park (520 Ashe Avenue) with Allman Brother tribute band Eat A Peach on Sunday, July 20 at 6 p.m. Food will be available at the cafe, but guests can bring their own food and drinks, and chairs and blankets are encouraged. The concert is free.
• SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED. Each year, WakeEd provides free classroom supplies for nearly 11,000 teachers in the Wake County Public Schools through the Tools For Schools program. Wake County YMCAs serve as drop-off locations for donations, which will be accepted through Wednesday, August 20. Supplies needed include Ticonderoga pencils, mechanical pencils, Sharpies, Crayola crayons, colored pencils and markers and other items.
• TICKETS SELLING FAST. Limited seats remain for the 18-show run of Theatre Raleigh’s production of “Waitress” at the De Ann S. Jones Theatre from Wednesday, August 6-Sunday, August 24. Broadway actress Alyssa Fox plays the lead character, Jenna. Fox played Elphaba in “Wicked” on Broadway, most recently headlining the show’s 20th anniversary. Veteran Raleigh actor Ira David Wood III will take on the role of Joe. Mini pies from Slice Pie Company will be on sale at each performance.
• EAT AND DRINK. Tickets are on sale for the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival at Koka Booth Amphitheatre on Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2. Admission includes all-you-care-to-taste samples of beer and bourbon (in a souvenir glass), along with barbecue and fixins, games and a variety of rock, blues and bluegrass music. Vendors and exhibits will be on site.
• BROADWAY AT DPAC. “Les Miserables” comes to the Durham Performing Arts Center for eight shows from Tuesday, July 15-Sunday, July 20. Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, “Les Miserables” tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption. Tickets start at $60.
