MARKET MOVIE. First Friday Market & Movie Night takes place at downtown Raleigh’s Moore Square on Friday, May 5, 5–9 p.m. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will be shown, and guests can enjoy food trucks, live entertainment, free games and a local market. Tickets are free and available online.

CINCO DE MAYO. Kick off the weekend Cinco de Mayo festivities at The Casso Raleigh‘s Good Day Good Night with a tacos-and-margarita special. On Friday, May 5, guests will be treated to two tacos (choice of pork, chicken or shrimp) and a traditional house margarita for $20, available from 2–10 p.m. 

NURSE YOUR DRINK. Raleigh Brewing recently collaborated with a group of nurses in honor of National Nurses Week to create a blueberry mango Berliner weisse named “Code Brew.” The nurses participated in the brewing process, learned about the equipment and the science behind the beer, and added ingredients. Raleigh Brewing acknowledges the hard work and dedication of health care workers and is proud to present Code Brew as a tribute to nurses. The brew will be available in their taprooms on May 7. 

TASTY SAMPLES. Chef, entrepreneur and PBS celebrity Vivian Howard will be serving samples of her latest Viv’s Fridge fare at Taylor’s Wine Shop in Raleigh on Saturday, May 6, noon–1:30 p.m. New menu items include strawberry and pecan baklava, baked feta surprise, and butterbean hummus and beet tzatziki. Howard’s smart refrigerator offers restaurant-quality entrees, snacks, sides and desserts in a convenient ready-to-eat or heat-and-eat format at 11 locations. 

MAP OUT YOUR HIKE. Google and the National Park Service have partnered to help make visits to the nation’s 63 national parks safer and easier to access. New updates have launched on Google Maps (both on iOS and Android) to help park visitors navigate the parks and their trails. Google Maps will now display reviews and information about the trails that include: whether the trail is paved, dirt, a loop, or an in-out trail; the trail’s level of difficulty; “Good for” suggestions, such as hiking with dogs and wheelchair accessibility; the best time to hike it if you want to avoid crowds. DINING DISCOUNT. Sassool, which has locations in Cary and Raleigh, is offering half-price wine every Wednesday. The fast-casual Lebanese and Mediterranean restaurant is also hosting Sassool Senior Day each Monday. From 4 p.m. to close, guests ages 55-and-over receive 15% off all in-store and phone orders.

WAIVED ADOPTION FEES. Wake County Animal Center is waiving adoption fees for dogs that have been on the adoption floor more than 22 days through Sunday, May 7. All adopted dogs will receive spay/neuter surgery, microchipping and required vaccinations, and new owners will not be charged the $95 fee.

Komen Race for the Cure takes place at Boxyard RTP on Saturday, May 6 at 9:30 a.m. The event will raise critical funds for patient care services and resources for those affected by breast cancer. This year’s event will include entertainment, family-friendly activations and testimonials from breast cancer survivors and thrivers. Registration is available online.

KICKOFF CONCERT. The North Carolina Museum of Art begins the 2023 Outdoor Performing Arts and Film season with a performance by The Wood Brothers and Shovels & Rope at the Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater at the Museum in the Park on Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. The Wood Brothers are a Grammy-nominated American roots music band. Tickets are available online.

GET ON YOUR BIKE. Commute Smart Raleigh launches Bike Bonanza at Raleigh Union Station’s plaza on Friday, May 5, 4–7 p.m. The Downtown Raleigh First Friday event will include live music, safety checks, bike share rides and more. Participate in a bike decoration station and a photo booth during this free family-friendly social event. Tickets are available online.

EXPLORE THE MUSEUMS. The North Carolina Museum of HistoryNorth Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and North Carolina Museum of Art are joining forces for a Summer Passport program. Take a trip to one of the museums between June 1–August 31 and get your passport stamped while exploring family-friendly activities. 

FUNDRAISING FESTIVAL. 3 Bluebirds Farm (1001 Horse Creek Road, Raleigh) will host Feather Fest on Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. The event will include live music, carnival games, food trucks and shopping with local artisans. Tickets and sponsorships are available online. Proceeds will go toward a new events structure for teen and adult life skills programs for individuals with autism.
