Raleigh beauty shoppers are getting a front-row seat to one of the industry’s more interesting comeback stories this fall.
Counter Beauty, the latest venture from clean-beauty pioneer Gregg Renfrew, will open a limited-time shop in Raleigh’s Village District beginning October 15. Located at 2032 Cameron Street, the pop-up will remain open through the holiday season, bringing Counter’s skincare and makeup assortment, holiday gifting and a slate of special events to the Triangle.
But Counter isn’t exactly a brand starting from scratch.
Renfrew founded Beautycounter in 2013, helping push the idea of ingredient transparency and “clean beauty” from a niche conversation into the mainstream. The company grew into a major skincare and cosmetics business and was valued at $1 billion when private-equity firm Carlyle Group acquired a majority stake in 2021.
The new company continues Renfrew’s focus on ingredient standards and advocacy while updating the old Beautycounter formula. Counter says Renfrew’s work has included advocating for stronger cosmetics regulation, including legislation that culminated in the 2022 Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act, the first major overhaul of federal cosmetics law in decades.
A Beauty Pop-Up Built for the Holidays
The Village District shop will lean heavily into the holiday season. Plans include seasonal gift sets, makeup touch-ups and color matching with local makeup artists, bouquets and gifts with purchase, complimentary calligraphed gift enclosures and private shopping events.
There will even be a Counter Candy Station, created in partnership with candy shop Lil Sweet Treat, pairing candy with Counter’s Holiday Jellies collection. Artwork from Framebridge will be incorporated throughout the shop, with additional collaborations planned with local personalities and area Pilates and yoga studios.
And Meet beecee
The Raleigh shop will also introduce Triangle shoppers to Renfrew’s newest project.
Launched in September, beecee targets a younger generation of beauty consumers and takes a less-is-more approach to skincare. The company debuted with a small collection of multitasking products, including an Everything Balm, Well-Rounded Bar facial and body cleanser, Dewy Gel Cream, and Superfine Mist.
The Village District pop-up will mark the first opportunity to shop and experience the full beecee assortment in person, giving Raleigh an early look at a brand Renfrew is positioning as the younger, simpler counterpart to Counter.
Counter’s Raleigh shop will be open Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday, noon–5 p.m. at 2032 Cameron St., Raleigh. Counter’s own Raleigh store page confirms the address and operating hours.
