Starting August 6, Raleigh pizza lovers will have a new spot to grab their favorite slice. Oakwood Pizza Box is opening a second location at 1842 Wake Forest Road—formerly home to Capital Creations Gourmet Pizza. But unlike the flagship spot on Person Street, this new outpost will be carry-out only.
And with more parking.
“We never thought Oakwood Pizza Box would be so busy that every day is a traffic event,” says co-owner Anthony Guerra, who runs the restaurant alongside his wife, Brett. “We just want our customers to be able to easily grab a pizza to go. With this expansion, we’re hoping it can come true.”
The new location—named Capital Pizza Box—sits in a high-traffic corridor just minutes from downtown Raleigh, Five Points, and Raleigh Iron Works. The addition isn’t just about convenience; it’s a gesture of appreciation to the staff who helped build the brand. Guerra is rolling out a profit-sharing program for longtime team members, some of whom have been with the business for over seven years.
Oakwood Pizza Box has built a cult following since opening in 2017, with its classic New York-style pies and rotating wine list. It’s consistently ranked among the Triangle’s best by news outlets, influencers, foodies and content creators.
Pizza runs deep for Guerra. His father, Rick, opened Bella Mia in Cary back in 2010—one of the first coal-fired pizza joints in the region. Anthony worked the ovens there before honing his skills in fine dining and wine programs across the Triangle.
Now, in addition to Oakwood Pizza Box and the new Capital Pizza Box, the Guerras have a few more pies in the oven: a wine bar named St. Pierre, coming to Raleigh Iron Works later this summer, and Tutti Pizza, which opened earlier this year in Charleston, South Carolina, in collaboration with the team behind Graft.
Stay tuned for a look inside the new space—and a few sips from St. Pierre soon.
