Guest speaker, Sabrina Goode, Friends of Oberlin Village
Its cemetery and a few nearby buildings are all that remain of what used to be a vibrant African American community known as Oberlin Village. Located near present-day Cameron Village, the community was founded in the late 1800s by freed people and their families. Goode’s great-great-grandfather helped establish the once–self-sufficient village, and she is now one of several people fighting to preserve what’s left and to raise awareness of its significance.
