Carolina Ballet is proud to present the final show of its 20th anniversary season with performances of family favorite Sleeping Beauty at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium from May 17 through May 20. The end of the season coincides with the celebration of interim Executive Director Michele Weathers permanently joining the staff of the nonprofit.
Sleeping Beauty is the third of the trio of renowned traditional Russian ballets, alongside Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. This season also marks the first time Sleeping Beauty has been performed by Carolina Ballet since 2014.
The stunning visuals choreographed by Ballet Master Marius Petipa combine with the majestic musical compositions of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to bring the acclaimed fairytale of Princess Aurora’s story to life. Artistic Director Robert Weiss has created a mesmerizing adaptation of Petipa’s original choreography that includes a magnificently fierce dragon and the addition of a dancing role for the fierce Raven.
