Registration is now open for the second annual Bull City race, which drew more than 6,000 participants in its inaugural year.
Runners can start making plans for another trip through the Bull City.
The Garmin Marathon Series Durham will return Saturday, May 1, 2027, following an inaugural event that brought more than 6,000 registered runners to Durham earlier this year. Participants came from 48 states and 17 countries, generating more than $4 million in estimated economic impact, according to the Durham Sports Commission.
Registration is now open for four distances: a Boston Marathon-qualifying marathon, a USATF-certified half marathon, 10K and 5K.
The 2027 course will once again take runners through some of Durham’s most recognizable destinations, including the American Tobacco Trail, Durham Bulls Athletic Park and Duke University’s campus, combining city streets with the area’s hills and trails.
“The inaugural Garmin Marathon Series proved what is possible in Durham on not only a national but on an international scale,” says Marcus Manning, executive director of the Durham Sports Commission.
The weekend will include more than race day. Organizers also plan a two-day expo and finish-line festival featuring family-friendly activities, limited-edition Garmin race gear and appearances by Garmin-sponsored professional athletes.
The Garmin Marathon Series launched in 2025 with races in Toledo, Ohio, and Tucson, Arizona, before adding Durham as its third location in 2026.
