Fireflies in the Garden

May 13 @ 7:30 pm

Join Richard Joyce, conservation biologist with the Xerces Society and coordinator of the Firefly Atlas Project, for an evening exploring the world of fireflies.

The program begins at 7:30 pm at the Bobby G. Wilder Visitor Center with a brief outdoor introduction covering the role fireflies play in ecosystems, the importance of natural darkness and tips for observing these remarkable insects. Afterward, participants will head out into the garden to watch for fireflies and learn more about their behavior and habitat.

Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Program Tip: Participants are encouraged to wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothes for being in the garden at night. If you have a headlamp with a red-light setting or an insect net, feel free to bring it along (not required).
