Raleigh’s West End continues to grow into one of those neighborhoods where you can grab a beer, browse a bookstore, and still feel like you’re part of something that hasn’t been completely scrubbed clean of character.
And this fall, that mix gets another addition with the arrival of Basic Brewing, a locally owned brewery and full-service dining concept opening at Platform, Kane Realty Corporation’s mixed-use development in Raleigh’s West End.
The new brewery will bring craft beer, elevated comfort food, and a welcoming neighborhood feel to the area, with a concept designed to be a little more polished than the typical grab-a-pint-and-stand-near-a-barrel brewery experience.
Think mid-century modern meets industrial design, a full kitchen, pizza at the center of the menu, and enough flexibility to work for casual gatherings, date nights, group events, or the simple human need to sit down with a beer and not answer emails for a while.
“We’re excited to welcome Basic Brewing to Platform and continue building a dynamic, community-driven retail mix in West End,” said Mary Ehrenberger, retail leasing and multi-site manager for Kane Realty Corporation. “Their concept aligns perfectly with the vision for Platform—bringing people together through unique, high-quality experiences in a neighborhood setting.”
Basic Brewing will feature a lineup of core beers, seasonal rotations, cocktails, and wine, giving guests options beyond the usual brewery playbook. The food menu will focus on pizza, along with an American-inspired selection of dishes meant to round out the experience and keep people hanging around longer than one quick drink.
“West End and the surrounding neighborhoods truly capture the heart and history of Raleigh,” said founder Kendall York. “As someone who has lived here my entire life, it’s exciting to be part of a growing area that still feels deeply connected to the community. We’re looking forward to creating a space where people can come together and enjoy the simple things.”
Along with its brewery and restaurant offerings, Basic Brewing will include a rentable private event space for larger gatherings. The team also plans to collaborate with neighboring businesses on community events.
Basic Brewing joins a growing roster of local businesses at Platform, including Homebody Yoga and Wellness, The Bike Library, Brightside Books & Wine, and MOOD Raleigh. Together, they are helping shape Platform into a West End hub that blends wellness, retail, food, drink, and neighborhood energy without losing sight of its place.
The West End itself has become one of Raleigh’s more interesting pockets of growth. Located across from Raleigh Union Station and near the Warehouse District, Boylan Heights, downtown Raleigh, and Dix Park, the neighborhood combines historic character with new development, walkable businesses, and the kind of urban momentum that makes people say, “Remember when this area looked totally different?”—usually while standing in front of a brand-new apartment building.
