Tailgating Hacks Every Fan Needs This Football Season

By Zach Ferenchak, Rmd. The Food Agency

Football season is officially here, and that means parking lots full of grills, coolers, and spirited fans ready to cheer on their team. Whether you’re celebrating outside the stadium or creating your own homegate in the kitchen or backyard, we’ve got a few game-winning tips, tasty pairings, and easy recipes that will keep the energy high from kickoff to the final whistle.

Your Pregame Game Plan

Prep Ahead to Play More
The key to a successful tailgate? Don’t get stuck behind the grill while everyone else is having fun. A little planning goes a long way. Prep dips, marinades, and skewers the night before so all you need to do is heat and serve. Even drinks can be prepped ahead—think big-batch cocktails or prechilled cans in the cooler so you’re not scrambling for ice. Setting out your serving platters, napkins, and utensils early also cuts down on last-minute stress. With a little foresight, you’ll spend more time high-fiving after touchdowns and less time juggling tongs.

Set the Scene
Team spirit goes beyond jerseys and foam fingers. Transform your tailgate into a fan zone with simple touches that show you’re all in. DIY garlands, colorful balloons, and tableware in team colors instantly pull the look together. A chalkboard or letter board menu listing your food lineup not only looks festive, but also keeps guests in the loop. Don’t forget the personal touches: flags, face paint, and even themed playlists all add to the atmosphere. When your space looks the part, it elevates the whole experience and gets everyone hyped for kickoff.

Keep Guests Busy (and Cheering)
The food may draw people in, but it’s the fun that keeps them hanging around. Bring along a few tried-and-true games like cornhole, giant Jenga, or ladder toss to fill the time before kickoff. These classics are easy crowd-pleasers that get everyone involved. You can also add a photo corner with props like foam fingers, oversized sunglasses, or team-colored scarves for a playful memory-maker. The more interactive your setup, the more your tailgate feels like an event rather than just a pregame meal.

Crowd-Pleasing Pairings
Food and drinks are the real MVPs of any tailgate spread. Go beyond chips and pretzels with bold flavors and easy-to-share bites, from pork rind dippers to creative cocktails and more!
Beer + Cheese Fondue With a Crunch
Skip the standard nachos and upgrade to a creamy beer cheese fondue. Made with your favorite craft brew and a trio of melted cheeses, this dip is guaranteed to disappear fast. And here’s the twist—ditch the chips and serve it with Southern Recipe Small Batch pork rinds. Packed with crunch and bold flavors like Hot Honey and Sweet BBQ, they’re a low-carb, high-protein snack that pairs perfectly with the richness of cheese and the crisp bite of beer.
Cocktail Station, Simplified
Offer one or two signature drinks and let guests make them their own with garnishes. A mini self-serve cocktail bar frees you up and adds an interactive element to your setup.
