Carolina Ballet, the Triangle’s only professional ballet company, is pleased to announce the upcoming performances of Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic, The Nutcracker. Now in its 15th year, The Nutcracker will run Dec. 3 - Dec. 24 at Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill, DPAC in Durham and Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.
The ballet, presented by PNC Bank, is led by Artistic Director Robert Weiss. The performances will feature the entire Carolina Ballet company plus more than 100 local children.
The Nutcracker tells a favorite holiday story with classical choreography and characters such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Rat King, Clara, and more. The show features elaborate scenery, a live orchestra, and magical illusions with dancers levitating, disappearing and reappearing. Created by world-renowned magician Rick Thomas, these illusions are unique to Carolina Ballet’s rendition of The Nutcracker.
