Before embarking on a tour of North America, composer Maurice Ravel agreed to write a Spanish-influenced ballet score for Ida Rubinstein, the Russian dancer and actress. After abandoning his idea for an adaptation, he began an original composition based on the lone, now famous, Boléro theme. Over the course of five months, he worked on his idea, repeating the theme and gradually increasing the orchestration over a relentless snare drum. Principal Guest Choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett (Carolina Jamboree, Carmina Burana) returns to present an all-new ballet set to Ravel’s legendary composition. Come experience the emotional crescendo of this Carolina Ballet world premiere.
