Wilson, N.C. hosts its 14th annual North Carolina Whirligig Festival on Saturday-Sunday, November 3-4 in Historic Downtown Wilson. The popular community arts festival, which attracts more than 60,000, happens annually the first weekend in November in celebration of the arts, specifically the whimsical, wind-driven whirligigs (giant sculptures made from recycled industrial parts by local folk-artist Vollis Simpson). This year’s festival footprint is expanded to encompass the new Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, which opened last November to considerable fanfare.
