Experience the Best Raleigh Has to Offer

Midtown magazine offers readers an inside look at Raleigh life, from Downtown to Midtown and northward to the 540 outer beltway. Anchored in the “second downtown” of the Midtown/North Hills area, Midtown captures the capital city experiencing an explosion in growth of population, state offices, businesses, medical facilities, and homes and apartments. Blending old historic with the modern new South, Midtown introduces you to the people and places that make Raleigh the hottest place to live, work and play.

Sunday afternoons just got much more indulgent during your North Hills shopping excursion with the recent addition of Leo’s Italian Social, now open on the ground level of the Renaissance Hotel.

Filling the space of the old Mia Francesca location, Leo’s Italian Social is a plush new dining experience serving lunch, brunch, dinner and cocktails that range from arancini and cauliflower bites for starters to pasta, wood-fired pizzas and main dishes such as halibut, chicken parmesan and juicy filet cuts.

Midtown visited Leo’s to try some items on its Sunday brunch menu. The menu features six delicious-sounding items, making it challenging to decide on only two!

We opted for the Avocado Toast, made with fresh avocado spread, grilled sourdough, feta cheese, and a soft-boiled egg. Served with a side of fresh arugula topped with radishes and heirloom tomatoes, it was one of the heartiest avocado toasts we’ve had.

We also opted for the Baked Italian Eggs with roasted tomatoes, sausage, caramelized onions, zucchini and olive oil toast. You have your choice of how you want your eggs, which, for us, was over-easy so that the rich yolk could blend in with the rich tomato sauce and nicely seasoned sausage.

Also, during Leo’s Italian Social’s brunch hours, take advantage of their $5 Mimosa and Bloody Mary specials—we sure did!

🌼 Here comes the sun! 🌸

One of our favorite events of the year began today with a media preview at @ncartmuseum! Their 10th annual Art in Bloom features the stunning creativity of floral designers from across the state who interpret works of art. This five-day floral fundraiser supports the Museum’s arts programming in North Carolina.

This year’s exhibit is themed the “Decade Show,” and includes 10 large installations portraying the decades from the 1920s through the 2020s.

As usual, the @traderjoes display is a standout (they were assigned the 1990’s, and they #delivered). Another favorite was the 2000’s, which showcased technology.

Some non-decade entry faves: Ailsa Tessier’s interpretation of Renaissance Interior with Banqueters (her 10th entry out of 10 years at #artinbloom!) + the arrangement by @dianemakgill.3dbyddesign was simply stunning!
